Score: 75 /100. By Blood Alone was formed in 2004. Originating from America, they bring a Progressive Gothic Metal sound to Europe. But it’s not that metal before you give them a listen and get disappointed. It’s more in the rock area where they’re operating from. Female vocals are present and a calm slow sound (Except for a few songs).
First of all, we were impressed by the incredible cover art of the cd. You’ll see a ship bursting through a wave in the middle of a storm. It looks like an expensive painting. Second, as I warned you, don’t be fooled by the name. The cover art combined with the band- and cd name give the idea it’s some Battle-Metal or perhaps Death-Metal band. Well, as stated, don’t get disappointed when you give it a listen because it isn’t your thing.
This CD is quite decent. Female vocals, some catchy keyboard tones and simple guitars. But it did gave off a bit of a mono sound to me. Like it has been recorded a decade ago or so. But this does give it a very unique and special sound.
As you start the cd you think everything you thought was correct when you hear fast guitars presenting you a quick riff. But that lasts not for long as the female vocals kick in and after that keyboards with the sound of an accordion. The mood has been set for the album and sweet calming music takes you away. To give you a more precise indication; People stand still and stare focused at the stage when BBA gives a concert, as stated on their site.
There’s a nice intro on Undead Friend, very calm and slow female vocals with keyboards with the sound of a piano. To go up and up following an upwards moving line and the song get’s more active.
Closed by a song that sounds like a song for kids and also sung by kids. Talking of a little girl that tortured small creatures, and the lyrics get more sinister further in the song.
