Based on the strength of our performance at Mark Curdo’s Spinal Tap tribute show, Robin Ivy (WCYY’s morning gal) asked us to perform unplugged on the air as a promo for the WCYY “Home for the Holidaze” show at the Big Easy, where local bands all play holiday songs. Unfortunately, the song that the band was preparing for the club show (”Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee” aka “Beethoven’s 9th Symphony”) did not really lend itself to an unplugged arrangement, so Cruella and I prepped some songs fast. We ended up with “Walking in the Air” which many of you know from the animated short film “The Snowman”, and (keeping with the animated theme) “Silver and Gold” from the Rankin-Bass version of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. Both are on the short side, which is a good thing.

So, Cruella and I showed up not so bright eyed and bushy tailed at the WCYY studio just before 8am to fine a bright eyed and bushy tailed Robin Ivy ready to receive us. I have never had a chance to hang out with her before, but she was very cool, and we chatted quite a bit while we set up. Once on the air, we performed our tunes and were interviewed by Robin. She brought up insightful issues (mostly Cruella breast cancer battle of last year) and made us feel quite at home. My friend Rich who lives in Texas listened over the internet and said we sounded great.
