w/Red Cross Sky

Well, the best way to sum up this show was that it is the only one in the history of By Blood Alone where we walked out on the gig without playing. It’s only the second time I have done it in my career, and only the third time in Runtt’s, and we have both been gigging for over 20 years.

We really only agreed to play there out of curiosity about playing in OOB – a resort town on the shore. The club looked nice, but had roaches in the bathroom and a moldy aroma. Cruella’s sinuses kept locking up every time she went in. a few days beforehand, Runtt’s work schedule changed unexpectedly, and he had to be at work at 6 am (which means getting up at 4) the next morning, instead of his originally arranged 10am. So, with our set time scheduled for 11, we were quite vocal about having to go on right at 11.

Problem was, the show was totally unorganized, and no one was cracking the whip and making sure bands went on on time. On top of that, the band that played before us took THIRTY FIVE MINUTES to set up! (FYI, an experienced band should be able to set up in 15.) so, they went on at 10:35, we realized we would not be on before 11:30, so we packed up and left. No big loss – the entire strip was dead that night. And I’m glad to say we will not tolerate such behavior again. If nobody’s running things, we will start running things ourselves or we won’t play. They (whoever “they” are) have more to lose than us in these situations.
