w/Coven of 13 & Medusa Maidens
Generally speaking I don’t object to getting older, but 39 was met with some trepidation, since the 39th and 40th birthdays are always met with comments like “ooooh – you’re almost 40″ or “ooooh – you ARE 40!” I’m definitely looking forward to 41, when such comments stop. So, our show for my 39th birthday was a bit on the low-key side due to the time of year (late august when everyone is squeezing in the last of their summer vacations), but it as still mucho fun. I received more happy birthday wishes than I think I have in my entire collective life. Duane Larson (an old bandmate) flew out from the midwest where he lives now to catch BBA live and he was quite impressed (impressing him isn’t easy.) Coven of 13 was dark and metallic as to be expected, with that name and all, and sported two gals in the band just like By Blood Alone. Medusa Maidens were quite an eyeful, and had expanded their show to include a group opening dance, then solo dances by several members, and then another group number for a closer. Va Va Voom! Our set was interrupted by the surprise presentation of a birthday pie (I don’t care for cake) that was very touching and very delicious. As we packed up, Aepril, the founder of Medusa Maidens, brought her dog into Geno’s and it’s the biggest dog I have ever seen – some sort of wolfhound. I suspect that it’s really a prehistoric cave-dog that Aepril found frozen in the ice, thawed out, and then adopted.
