w/Mindset X, Eden’s Lie, Porter & Red State

Unlike the Spyder Room, the Milly’s gig was fairly easy to book. The guy at the club said “I know Steve from Mindset X is looking for bands for a show – here’s his number”. I called Steve and after a few days (I guess he checked out our clips online) he called back and set us up for this date. I wish all bookings went that easy. The week before the show Steve arranged the lineup and scheduled us for last. Not my ideal gameplan, but at the same time nothing new, and since it was a friday we weren’t concerned about getting up for work the next day, so being out late wasn’t an issue. The other bands came and went (Red State from Boston first, then Eden’s Lie, Mindset X and Porter, all from Southern NH), and while they were all good and I’m sure they busted their assess to promote, turnout was pretty poor. I talked to some people about it including the bass player for Porter and he said that this was par for the course in the Manchester area. Later I was reading the local free arts weekly and it seems that local music coverage was minimal. Hell, the clubs didn’t even advertise in the paper! It’s no wonder not many people showed up. When we actually played, we had about as many people watching us as watched the other bands, and we were the out-of-towners. Some stood down front and stared (just like our Maine shows – how creepy!), and some hot blond chicks danced up a storm. (What a change from the Spyder Room show, where the hot blond chicks practically ran from us.) Those that did catch our set showered us with compliments and we sold some merch.
