w/Now Transmission & some band from Bates College

Both the club, Legends, and the city, Lewiston, were new ground for us, so the gig was sort of thought of as a paid audition on both the promoter’s part and ours: we were thrown on the bill on a low-key saturday night with some other new-to-the-scene acts. How surprised we were to find Legends to be a huge club with an equally huge stage and impressive sound system! We set up, did a quick soundcheck and waited for showtime. In the interim, some of our fans arrived from Portland, and we chatted with the other bands, Now Transmission and some guys who attend Bates College (whose bandname I didn’t catch.) Showtime came and we put in a sharp set. It’s amazing how a soundcheck really makes for a good show. Other than that not much happened – like I said, it was a low-key night. Now Transmission were good in a radio-friendly sort of way, and the Bates boys did a lot of covers (”Corduroy” by Pearl Jam was a high point.) Carrie the promoter dug us and booked us another date right then and there, so all-in-all it was a productive night.
