w/Ocean, Down to Kill, Black Iron Prison
Our second gig and it’s on a wednesday night. The last time I played on a wednesday was 15 years ago opening for Murphy’s Law, so at first this was a bit weird for me, but Portland doom gods Ocean had personally asked us to open for them on the first night of their tour, so who the heck were we to say no? They were even nice enough to loan us their cabinets to cut down on gear-lugging. Black Iron Prison, a multi-media performance art act opened the show with a dazzling display of video and sound, and set the mood for us quite nicely. Our set wasn’t quite as sharp as our debut, but nothing to be ashamed of. Let’s say we got by ok. You wouldn’t know from the size of the crowd. I didn’t expect that many people on a wednesday night in November. (BTW, that borrowed Marshall 4×12 sounded great – I think I need one for myself.) Next, Down to Kill came on and JESUS CHRIST WERE THEY LOUD! EVEN WITH EARPLUGS THEY WERE LOUD! Definitely time to load out. After loadout, there was still time to see Ocean put the D in Doom. Their music is oddly soothing, and well worth the wait. I hope their tour is going well.
